Ambleside and Kirkby Stephen's second team battled out a 2-2 draw in this latest Cumbria Women's Hockey League game, with both sides producing plenty of good play in a competitive and entertaining clash at The Cinder Ovens playing surface in Kendal.

It was a relatively competitive start to the game with very few chances on goal for either team, as defences were on top.

However the game began to open up as Holly Strickland, Donna Robinson and Polly Holden looked dangerous in the D for Ambleside, while Kirkby Stephen looked lively on the break as Lisa Shaw tested Caroline Cropper in the Ambleside goal.

Ambleside opened the scoring midway through the first half when Holly Strickland finished from close range after good work in the area by the Ambleside attack.

Kirkby Stephen equalised with seven minutes left of the first half when Lisa Shaw struck the ball home past the keeper as both sides were all square at the break.

The visitors started the second half well and were 2-1 up when Leah Boustead powered the ball home in the D.

Ambleside pressed for the equaliser, with Robinson, Strickland, Holden, Ailsa Richardson, April Barclay and Jemma Knowles all going close.

However Kirkby Stephen looked dangerous through Dianne Boustead and Leah Boustead, while Lisa Shaw also looked a threat.

Ambleside though claimed a point with little time left on the clock when Donna Robinson flicked the ball home past the keeper as the greens claimed a share of the spoils to bring an end to what was a good game of hockey.

Ambleside travel to play league leaders Carlisle on Saturday, while Kirkby Stephen seconds host Kendal seconds.
