CARUS Green Golf Club resident and European Senior Tour winner Gary Wolstenholme MBE is celebrating a successful week competing in Vilamoura, Portugal, where he and his team came second in the North Region Overseas PGA Pro-Am Championship.

Gary also claimed second prize in the individual professional competition.

Carus Green has been competing in the event for many years, with a very good level of success. This year, fellow golfers Andrew Mattinson, and father and son duo, Bob and Liam Mason, formed part of Gary’s team, and played the five-day event at four of Portugal’s finest courses: Monte Rei, Laranjal, Victoria and Quinta Do Lago, South.

With conditions fine, the team were in contention for the entire four days, which as Gary explains, is unusual:

“The team did extremely well and we were in contention right from the very start which kept us all feeling positive. I have now played in this competition for more than five years. It’s great fun and escaping the British weather was also a bonus. Coming second out of 22 teams is a real achievement and we are delighted with the result.”

Claiming second place to David Shacklady in the individual tournament, Gary, who starts 2017 with a fully exempt tour card, is confident for the season ahead and will next compete in the European Senior Tour’s Sharjah Senior Golf Masters, held in the United Arab Emirates later this month.
