CARUS Green golf club member Gareth Parry smashed the course record during the Steve Parsons Salver tournament.

Kendal-based Parry, 38, who has been a Carus Green member for more than 10 years and has a handicap of just one, shot 64, an incredible six strokes under par.

Winning against 120 other competitors, Gareth says his round was the ‘best ever’, although he also shot seven under par on Carus’ old course during a charity match.

He said. “I got off to a good start and conditions were fine. “There were some extremely challenging pin placements, but I managed to shoot six birdies and had an eagle on the 16th hole. Although I played well, I did have some lucky shots.

“A new custom-fit driver, acquired from Carus’ PGA professional, Andrew Pickering, also enabled me to increase my yardage, which definitely helped.”
