A NUMBER of South Lakeland and Eden runners featured in the top ten in Sunday's Skiddaw Fell Race from Keswick.

Dufton's Morgan Donnelly, who runs for Borrowdale, was second behind Keswick's Sam Stead who won the up and down race in 1-10-18. Morgan was only 33 seconds adrift in second but was the first V40 home.

Ambleside's Garry Greenhow (1-11-35) was third while Helm Hill's Adam Perry (1-11-54) pushed him hard in coming home fourth. Helm Hill's Josh Jardine (1-12-58) was sixth while his team mate Ben Procter (1-15-46) turned in a solid performance to finish tenth. His dad, Billy Procter (1-29-44), was first V60 in 49th.

First woman was Keswick's Cath Spurden (1-23-21) in 27th overall while Derwent's Sophie Noon (1-27-18) was second and Helm Hill's Catherine Slater (1-28-28) was third. There were 135 finishers.

AMBLESIDE'S Jack Wright (11-05) won Sunday's Langdale Gala race by 16 seconds from Keswick's Chris Edis (11-21) while his team mate Phil Cracker (12-19) was third and first V40.

The 1.9 kilometres route (178 metres of ascent) takes in a very steep scramble up the western slopes of Silver How as far as Spedding Crag. The athletes then run along the ridge and head back down through the bracken to the showfield.

The first lady was Settle's Judith Marshall who finished 18th overall in 16-55. There were 29 competitors.

Ambleside's Daniel Sanderson (11-22) won the U19 event with Chloe Rylance (13-23) winning the girls' race. The U13 race saw Settle's Ben Greenup (7-27) first home from Ambleside's Cameron Coates (7-45) with Sophie Rylance (8-21) triumphing in the girls' event.

There was an Ambleside one two in the U11 race with Rowan Ashworth (6-03) leading home Cal McVey. The first girl was Helm Hill's Ella Martindale (7-11). And in the U9's race Ambleside's Tom Ashworth (4-35) triumphed over Hoad Hill's Black Fleming (4-48). Leading home the girls was Ambleside's Alaana Coates (5-41).

Helm Hill's Jos Addison won his first senior fell race on Friday night at the two-and-a-half mile Kirkby Stephen Sports. Helm Hill's Hannah Russell was first female.
