Unibond: Town TV could bring in cash

BROADBAND television will make a massive impact on the profile of the UniBond League, forecasts the new man in the hot seat at Kendal Town FC.

Commercial manager Paul Maclennan believes that the new facility for fans to see their teams in action via the Intenet next season will also give advertisers more for their money as hoardings round the ground will also get television exposure.

That is just one of the avenues for increased revenue that Mr Maclennan is exploring as he gets to grips with the job of keep Town firmly established and financially secure in the UniBond Premier Division.

He is no stranger to the task for after ending his playing days in the Highland League with Inverness Caledonian he returned to his native Gateshead where he and two others became directors of the town football club to save it from going into liquidation.

Now Gateshead was on a firm financial footing he said he was looking forward to his new job of boosting Kendal's fortunes. Compared to Gateshead the task of raising the profile and getting in extra cash should be easy, he believes as the north-east club had no assets, unlike Kendal, which owns its own stadium and club facilities.

Meanwhile, on the pitch, Town had their first pre- season workout in a friendly with Fulwood Amateurs in which Kendal coasted to a 5-1 victory.

Manager Lee Ashcroft used the game largely as a try out for trialists, but with a sprinkling of first teamers in the side. Gareth Arnison led the way with a hat-trick and other goals added by Scott Redhead and Zac Clarke.
