KENDAL Town picked up a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Scarborough Athletic on a wet and miserable afternoon at The Pye Motors Stadium.

The game which was affected by Storm Brian saw both teams struggle with the conditions, but Kendal were the happier of the two sides as they twice battled back picked up a useful point.

Scarborough opened the scoring after 23 minutes when Danny Stimpson nodded home from close range. Kendal equalised in the second half through Anthony Lynch, but the visitors regained the lead through a Jimmy Beadle strike.

Kendal though claimed a point when Rick Seear drilled home from close range.

Scarborough made a positive start and created their first opportunity with just one minute on the clock when Michael Coulson’s corner was drilled past the post by Sam Hewitt.

The visitors continued to dominate while Will Kitchen had to dart from his line on two occasions to deny both Nathan Valentine and Coulson.

Kendal looked dangerous in the attacking third without testing the visiting keeper as Scarborough’s defence stood firm.

Scarborough opened the scoring on the half hour mark when Coulson’s corner was flicked home at the near post by Stimpson.

The visitors created further opportunities through Nathan Valentine who failed to connect with the ball after good work by Coulson, while Stimpson fired wide of the post.

Kendal equalised 12 seconds into the second half when Lynch rolled the ball into an empty net after Scarborough were caught off guard at the back.

Connor Gaul almost fired Kendal in front, but the former Colne player drilled his effort wide of the post as Kendal played very well in the opening stages of the second half.

Scarborough regained the lead when Beadle toe poked the ball home from close range after the talisman got onto the end of a Max Wright cross.

The game from that point opened up while the conditions worsened, with Kitchen forced into a good save as the former Morecambe shot stopper denied Billy Logan, before Charlie Bowman planted a free header over the bar for Kendal.

The turning point in the game came with ten minutes left when Scarborough had a penalty appeal turned down by referee Michael Ainsworth after Ross Daly was tripped in the box.

While the visitors stopped to dispute the decision, Ainsworth waved play on as Kendal broke quickly down the right hand side before Seear drilled the ball home from close range

With Storm Brian swirling around the ground, Scarborough searched for the winner as Coulson's shot was superbly tipped away by Kitchen, then, with seconds left on the clock, Dave Merris sent a scorching drive inches wide of the upright.

But Kendal held out to register a useful point.
