Bowl-oyt rankles Kendal

KENDAL CC suffered an unsatis- factory and frustrating end to their Lancashire Cup campaign when losing one-nil on a bowl-out against Heywood on Sunday.

Kendal travelled to play the Greater Manchester side Heywood, who fielded their second team because the First XI had to fulfil Wood Cup semi-final commitment in the Central Lancashire League.

After dismissing the hosts for 94, with Chris Miller taking 3-3 and Tony Yasin 2-27, Kendal were then thwarted when steady rain meant they were unable to get back on to make their reply.

Negotiations about a replay became deadlocked with Heywood wanting to bring Kendal back in midweek and the decision went to the Lancashire Cricket Board committee, which ruled that the teams should replay in midweek or the quarter-final tie be decided on the toss of a coin or a bowl-out.

Ten available players from each side bowled at the stumps and only a Heywood arm succeeded in landing the ball on the wood, sealing Kendal's fate.

Kendal fixture secretary David Sykes said:. "We were keen for a replay but could not get a side to travel in midweek and it's a mystery why we could not play next Sunday, which was the final date allowed to complete this round.

"The LCB decision effectively altered the final play-by' date for the competition, which happened to favour a club from near Manchester rather than one from Westmorland."
