NATIONAL cup finals await for two girls sports teams from a South Lakeland school.

Sedbergh School's hockey and netball first teams have both been beating all who face them of late, and are now just one step away from glory.

Sedbergh Hockey 1st XI girls beat their opponents to qualify for the National School Finals held at the Olympic park later this month.

The girls played The Perse School from Cambridge in a tense semi-final for the England Hockey National School cup.

Vice-Captain Issy Chamberlain was the standout player of the match scoring three goals, the best of which came from an almost impossible angle on her reverse.

Mary Archner and Josie Coulthard were scintillating in attack providing a number of chances for their teammates, whilst both scoring themselves.

Captain Georgina Boyd-Moss was the steady platform the girls attacked from, calm under pressure and the vocal leader on the pitch. Georgina has been the captain of this team since u14 and the 6-1 result paired with a trip to England Hockey’s National School Finals was a brilliant outcome as her school hockey career nears completion.

Following that result, the team's attentions turned to the Independent Schools Hockey Cup in which they hosted Hertfordshire's Queenswood School.

After a disastrous start, the girls found themselves 1-0 down with just 5 minutes on the clock the girls fought back to earn a 5-4 win in what was a true cup thriller.

Elsewhere, the school's 1st VII netball have qualified for the National Netball Finals for the first time in history.

The girls National Finals on Saturday 17th March in Hertfordshire. The National Finals are the top 18 schools in the country, with two qualifying from each of the 9 regions. Traditionally, the North West have proven to be a strong region so Sedbergh go into the finals full of confidence.
