Kendal Squash Club held its most recent weekly after school club at Castle Park Primary School.

The club, which had previously been at Heron Hill School, continued to be a success with a large number of the school's pupils participating in a variety of different squash activities.

Volunteers from Kendal Squash Club had been taking mobile mini-squash walls, rackets and balls into the school so that the pupils had the opportunity to learn about the game while running off some of their excess energy.

A grant from Cumbria County Council had enabled Kendal Squash Club to buy age-appropriate equipment (smaller rackets and bigger balls) which were used to encourage pupils to try the game of squash.

Support coach Guy Fenech said: “It has been fun to work with these young people, while there has been brilliant progress in each of the sessions. The pupils can now hit a moving ball with accuracy which is brilliant to see.”

Castle Park School’s Sarah Breeze, PE leader and class teacher, was pleased with the level of interest in which the Pupils showed at the sessions.

She said: “We like to provide a range of new experiences both in and out of the classroom. There has been a good take-up for the after-school squash club and the children have really enjoyed the opportunity to try something new and active.

“The club started in January with year 5 and 6 pupils and after half term Year 3 and Year 4 joined in."

Over the Easter holidays, the club is running a series of open afternoons for children aged 12 and under.

These are open to ‘graduates’ of the after school clubs and others. There is no charge.

Sessions will run at the Squash Club (LA9, 4EH, the Brewery Arts Centre car park on Highgate) on Wednesday 4 April, Tuesday 10 April and Thursday 12 April from 2.00 to 3.30.

Equipment will be provided but participants are asked if possible, to bring clean non-marking trainers to wear.
