KENDAL Town picked up a dramatic 3-2 victory against play-off hopefuls Bamber Bridge at the ST&B Accountants Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Kendal were 2-0 up after just 25 minutes when Gavin Clark’s 25-yard effort on goal was fumbled into the net by Lloyd Rigby, before Steven Yawson’s scintillating strike left the visiting goalkeeper stranded.

Bamber Bridge applied the pressure during the second while Matthew Johnson in the Kendal goal saved Brad Carsley’s penalty.

But the he visitors scored two goals in quick succession through Lewis Nightingale and Michael Potts before Ric Seear’s 89th minute penalty saw Kendal claim the win.

Kendal dominated the opening exchanges and opened the scoring after 14 minutes when Clark let fly from outside the penalty area with a strike that Rigby was only able to spill into his own net.

Spurred on by the opener, Kendal doubled their lead 11 minutes later after some neat link up play saw Morecambe loanee Yawson drilled an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net, leaving Rigby without a chance of getting near it.

Bamber Bridge, desperate to get back into the game, created their first opportunity after 33 minutes when Adam Dodd saw his shot well saved by Johnson, before Nightingale’s effort was turned round the post by the Kendal keeper.

Kendal had to scramble the ball away while the visitors continued to apply the pressure.

However, Kendal were almost 3-0 up only for Yawson to be denied by Matt Lawlor’s last ditch challenge.

Bamber Bridge were on the offensive at the start of the second half, while Kendal always looked dangerous on the break.

The visitors were awarded a penalty kick after an incident in the box, but Carsley was deined by Johnson’s legs.

But the pressure told on 75 minutes when Nightingale pulled one back, before the visitors equalised nine minutes later when Potts finished from close range.

The drama was not yet over, however, as the referee awarded Kendal a penalty which Seear calmly converted to give Kendal the three points despite further intense pressure from the visitors in the closing stages.
