KENDAL Swimming Club had a mass turnout with more than 70 members competing in the Ulverston Graded Open Meet.

Once again, the up-and-coming young nine and 10 year olds produced outstanding results, particularly Joseph Bulman, who was in dazzling form and collected a clutch of three gold and three silver medals from his events.

His finest efforts came from breaststroke, where in 50m sprint he got a slight lead out of his turn then injected more pace and stormed to victory. In the 100m he took complete control again to win. He produced another great swim at 50m backstroke for gold and settled for silver at 50m butterfly, freestyle and 100m individual medley.

He was followed by Annie Bottomley, Kate Collin and Mathew Foster who all struck double golds.

Bottomley’s butterfly served her well as she reigned supreme at this stroke where she stayed composed at both 50m and 100m to win. She then added a silver and two bronze medals to her haul.

Collin had similar success at breaststroke with her elegant stroke pattern drove to superb wins at both 50m and the 100m.

Foster elected to tackle the power events, taking on the 100m freestyle and the 200m individual medley to produce high quality swims with all round ability and technique to win gold in both events.

Nine-year-old Phoebe Malcolm was very impressive getting her career off the ground with a brilliant gold medal at 100m breaststroke and bronze for her efforts at 50m breaststroke and 100m individual medley.

Moving up through the ranks, supporters saw James Escolme, Megan Jones and Gregor Fletcher all collect a trio of gold medals with some fantastic swimming. Escolme's brilliance at 50m and 100m breaststroke and 100m backstroke had him getting fine starts and setting a fearsome pace which his opponents had to try and match. He turned on the screws to take outright wins. He completed his day adding silver medals from 50m butterfly, 50m and 100 m freestyle.

Jones produced a solid display of her all round ability with gold medal performances in 50m breaststroke, 100m freestyle and 200m individual medley. In the breaststroke and freestyle she had to work hard for a lead, but in close finishes she emerged victorious. The medley proved a little easier and she was able to establish a comfortable lead to take the win.

Fletcher had one of his best ever meets with his distance work bringing him a hat trick of golds. His 100m breaststroke set the tone and he gave nothing away to come home in first. He gave a similar display in the 100m butterfly, then produced a flawless swim in the 100m individual medley, followed by silver and bronze efforts at 50m breaststroke and butterfly. Josie Johnson did the double taking well earned wins in 100m breaststroke and 100m butterfly by pulling clear to set herself on the passage to victory.

A flurry of wins from eight swimmers completed the gold medal haul, and it began with Elliot Woodburn blasting his way to the finish at 100mfreestyle.

There were proud moments for Jessie Keech who won her 100m freestyle and Sophie Gibson in the 100m breaststroke as they both produced supreme efforts to put them into leading positions and take gold.

Evelyn Atkinson, Lucy Klijn, Lucie Bulman, Max Ainsworth and Jacob Klijn also proved successful winning gold with some outstanding swims at their best strokes.

Atkinson gave a display of controlled aggression to come through and win the 200m individual medley while Lucy Klijn produced an outstanding 100m breaststroke swim to win her gold.

Bulman was comfortable at 100m freestyle, followed by Ainsworth and Klijn at butterfly.
