NETHERFIELD captain Ben Barrow hopes his team can put this week’s unfortunate result behind them and get back to winning form.

The Field lost by three wickets to St Anne’s at the weekend, dashing any hopes of establishing an unbeaten run to start the season.

Barrow said: “It was a very good game of cricket to be honest, but for us it was frustrating.

“The result could have gone either way but we let ourselves down with the bat. We had a few good starts but nobody really made a match winning contribution.

“We were hoping to capitalise on last week’s win and get a good run going. Usually we are strong at home, so we were looking forward to playing but it was not to be. St Anne’s had a few good players who performed very well.

“This is very early on in the season though, so we’ll be looking to put it right this weekend coming.”

Barrow top scored the game for Netherfield, however he was not keen to celebrate his own efforts following a team defeat.

He said: “It is nice to contribute, but nobody remembers good innings from a game that was lost.

“It is a team game, so when you do well and still lose it doesn’t really count for anything.

On Saturday Netherfield face Penrith away.

Barrow said: “We are feeling good about the match on Saturday. It is good to be confident.

“We want to build on the first result of the season. We will need to be better with the bat than we were this week, and also a bit better in the field.

“We need to be making sure that our batsmen who get to 20 or 30 then go on to make strong partnerships and get bigger scores.

“We managed to do that in the first game of the season.

“When it comes to bowling we need to be a bit more clinical on the attack and take our chances more.

“We need to learn to make the most of advantages we have and when we are in front we need to stay in front.

“We didn’t really manage to do that very well against St Anne’s, so that needs work.”
