KENDAL Cricket Club moved up to seventh place in the Palace Shield Premier Division after a comprehensive nine wicket win against bottom of the table Torrisholme at Shap Road on Saturday.

Two wickets apiece from Toby Tyson, Kuldeep Singh, Chris Miller and Saeed Bariwala saw Torrisholme all out for 149.

In reply, Saeed Bariwala and Lachlan Stewart both posted joint top scores of 61, before Kendal closed on 153-1 off just 21.1 overs.

Torrisholme batted first and frustrated Kendal’s bowling attack when both Daniel Woods and Andy Butler put on a first wicket stand of 28.

Kendal though were soon in control of proceedings when Butler was run out by Ben Phillips before the visitors were whittled down to 65-3.

Matthew Park picked up the wicket of Aaron Tinker, while Kendal captain Miller dismissed Paul Batty who was caught behind by Phillips.

Saed Bariwala applied even more pressure on the visitors' attack after the former Preston player bowled Bryson Little.

Daniel Woods frustrated Kendal with a top score of 65 from 87 balls as Torrisholme moved onto 105.

But Kendal halted their momentum when Kuldeep Singh picked up two quick wickets after bowling Woods before trapping Francis Stewart leg before wicket soon after.

Bariwala claimed his second wicket when Callum Steel was dismissed, however, Torrisholme frustrated through James Cookson and Ben Pye who both moved the score onto 148.

Chris Miller slowed the run rate down when the Kendal skipper bowled Pye before Toby Tyson cleaned the tail after seeing off Liam Pemberton and Neil Jordan who were both caught behind by Phillips, while Torrisholme were all out for 149 of 43 overs.

Bariwala and Stewart were in relentless form with an imposing first wicket stand of 121.

The partnership saw Kendal close in on the first innings total but the two couldn't see the job through.

Bariwala became the only Kendal man to fall when he was bowled for 61 by Daniel Cookson. He made his runs from just 47 balls, smashing eight fours and two sixes in the process.

Stewart and Edward Price eased Kendal to victory before the Auld Greys closed on 153-1 off 22.1 overs.

Stewart's 61 included 11 fours.
