Carus Green’s touring golf professional, Jack Senior, has qualified for The Open Championship for the second time in his career.

He booked his place in the prestigious competition after finishing second at St Anne’s Old Links, with a score of -10.

Jack is one of just three players to qualify from the 36-hole final qualifying event, and, together with James Robinson and Marcus Armitage, will join the line-up at Carnoustie from 19-22 July.

Jack, 28, from Morecambe, has been a professional player since 2011. Renowned for beating US golf superstar, Jordan Spieth, in the US Amateur Championships in 2011, he has won a number of key tournaments during his time as both an amateur and professional, notably, the Lytham Trophy, the New South Wales Amateur Championship and the Hampshire Hogg, all in 2011. He also formed part of the winning Walker Cup team in the same year. Jack has also won the EuroPro tour twice, the Challenge Tour in 2015 at Spey Valley and qualified for The Open in 2016.

“I am delighted to have qualified for this year’s Open Championship; it’s a great experience to play in a major tournament and having been there before in 2016, I’m hoping to learn from this,” said Jack. “Although I’ll be nervous standing on the first tee, I know what to expect.”

Jack, who continues to be coached by PGA Professional, Ryan Dône, had his brother, Joe, caddying for him at the open qualifier. Joe will again do the honours at Carnoustie. It has been seven years since he caddied for Jack.

“It’s great to have my brother back on the bag,” he said. “The Open will no doubt be stressful, so to have a familiar face alongside me will really help. My season is going well and I’ve had a couple of top-ten finishes, so I’m hoping to post a good score and enjoy the tournament.”

“Everyone at Carus Green will be rooting for Jack this week; we’re extremely proud of his achievements and have tremendous confidence that he’ll do well,” added Carus’ owner, Graham Curtin.
