NETHERFIELD crashed to only their second league defeat of the season after losing by 62 runs to Barrow at Parkside Road.

Grant Roelofsen’s first innings knock of 87-91 balls and Toby Mowat’s 51-115 balls saw Barrow post an imposing first innings total of 223-4.

However, Jack Boyle’s second innings knock of 95-105 balls kept Netherfield’s hopes alive, before Mowat’s second innings return of 3-44 saw Netherfield bowled out for 161 off 42.4 overs.

Barrow won the toss and elected to bat on a flat wicket.

However, in the early exchanges Netherfield made the early breakthrough when Matt Jackson picked up the wicket of Robin Adams who was caught by John Huck.

The visitors recovered after both Mowat and Roelofsen guided Barrow onto 145.

Netherfield broke the partnership after Roelofsen was caught behind by Lewis Edge off the bowling of Jackson with Barrow on 145-2.

The Field applied even more pressure on the Barrow attack when Marc Hadwin despatched of Mowat who fell for 51.

Ryan Gilmour and Greg Reynolds pushed Barrow further on to 212, before Harrison Cox bowled Reynolds for 29-27 balls.

However Barrow closed on 223-4 with Gilmour undefeated on 33-48 balls

In reply Netherfield collapsed onto 27-3 after Mowat picked up the wickets of Josh Dixon, Ben Barrow and John Huck. Both Barrow and Huck were trapped LBW by the former Barrow captain while Dixon picked out Daryl Wearing.

Jack Boyle and Brad Earl attempted to recover the innings as Netherfield moved onto 64, before Barrow broke the partnership when Earl was bowled by Greg Reynolds.

Boyle was in relentless form with the bat after the New Zealand Professional edged Netherfield onto 122, before Barrow broke through when Lewis Edge was caught by Gilmour off the bowling of Reynolds, with Netherfield on 122-5.

Barrow from that point dominated after Gary Collins bowled both Lewis Richardson and Harrison Cox.

Boyle was then run out for 95-105 balls.

Gilmour finished the game off after taking the wickets of Hadwin and Nathan Chambers,while Netherfield were all out for 161 off 42.4 overs.

Netherfield are still top of The Northern Premier Cricket League however their lead has been reduced to nine points after Blackpool defeated Fleetwood.
