KENDAL Town made another cup exit as they lost 2-1 to Unibond First Division side Chorley on Tuesday night in the fist round of the United Co-op Lancashire Cup.
Its now four consecutive defeats for Lee Ashcroft's side, who appear to be running low on confidence at the moment.
Chorley, who are also struggling to make an impact in their league, proved to be a surprise package and were well worthy of their win, producing an energetic display of football.
Zac Clark and Tony Hallam both went close for Kendal early doors, but the visitors drew first blood when Stephen Burke's first-time shot found the bottom corner on seven minutes.
A shot on the turn from Gareth Arnison forced Chorley's Peter Collinge into a good save minutes later and the same player should have levelled the scores from a quality Andy Leigh centre as another chance went begging.
Former town favourite Kenny Mayers, now assistant player manager at Chorley, should have got one over his old club on 30 minutes, but he scuffed a close-range effort allowing Newnes to save with his feet.
Kendal's second half response was poor and Chorley extended their lead through Lee Shilito just before the hour mark following a quickly taken throw-in.
Five minutes from time Mike Eckersley's 25-yarder came back off the inside of the Kendal post, but Kendal replied late on with a Peter Wright goal which, in the event, proved insignificant.
Team: Newnes, Leigh, Woods (Mulvaney from 46 minutes), Hallam, Forbes, Cole, Warburton, Kilford, Arnison (Hobson from 46 minutes), Clark. Subs not used: Dyson, Henry.
