Kendal 9, Westoe 3.
Magnificent defence and the reliable boot of fly-half Dan Stephens ensured that Kendal reached the Christmas break unbeaten in North Division One.
In a dour struggle Kendal profited twice in the first half and once in the second from Westoe's spoiling tactics which eventually led to three penalties for continually straying offside.
An often ill-tempered game was punctuated by three yellow cards and for five minutes Kendal were reduced to 13 men when hooker Duncan Green was sin-binned for retaliation and second row Gareth Gore also given a ten minute penalty for stamping.
When short-handed Kendal's scrum performed heroics and overall just had the edge over the visitors, three times determinedly preventing attempts for pushover tries from close range.
This fell well short of being a memorable match, but the result serves Kendal well as they take a well-earned break before facing a tough trip to Hull on January 5 and a vitally important home game with promotion rivals Huddersfield on January 19.
