Teen gains country's first Tai Chi Chuan award

A TEENAGER who attends Wings School in Milnthorpe has become the first person in the country to receive a Tai Chi Chuan award accredited by the AQA examination board.

Bobby Coates, 14, has been studying the ancient Chinese martial art for the past 18 months, and has completed more than 60 sessions of Tai Chi practice.

As part of the award, Bobby completed various stretching and breathing exercises and successfully demonstrated various Tai Chi positions.

Bobby's instructor, Chris Shaw, works for the UK Taiji Qigong foundation, and has taught both pupils and staff at the Wings School for the past two years.

"Bobby's quite exceptional. We are the first school to offer the award and he's the first in the country to be awarded it," he said.
