Kendal 2nd 38 - Whitchurch 2nd 0

ANOTHER comprehensive victory for the Seconds leaves them requiring victories from their final two league games to clinch the Miller Homes First Division title.

Kendal have now kept clean sheets in their last six fixtures while amassing a massive 309 points.

Started brightly in the awful weather, Kendal pinned Whitchurch back in their own half, but sloppy final ball or spirited Whitchurch defence kept the scoresheet blank until the 20th minute when a good team move involving forwards and backs to allow flanker Steven Moss to score a try which Boardley converted.

Ten minutes later full-back Coulter outfoxed his opposite number to create space for scrum half Trotter to canter in under the posts. Boardley again converted for 14-0.

Tomlinson then found his way over the line but the try was disallowed, but from the resulting scrum and direct play from No.8 Ross, Tomlinson gained his reward and dotted the ball down. Another Boardley conversion gave Kendal a 21-0 lead at half-time.

After the break Kendal struggled to get hold of the ball, but settled down and great defence in midfield from Cartmell and Quarry allowed the ball to be shipped out quickly through the back line to allow winger Gillard an unopposed 40 yard run in for an unconverted try.

Five minutes later more turnover possession was won by Nicholson and Wharton, allowing Kendal a break down the wing. Quick ball followed and flanker Moss broke though tired tackling to touch down for his second try.

Kendal kept driving towards the Whitchurch line but the defence held firm until Boardley received quick ball from Trotter and produced a magical cross field kick which Wharton collected and touched down. Boardley converted to make the final score 38-0.
