SIR Michael Stoute has not quite hit his stride with his Newmarket string yet, but Newbury's meeting today should see that change.
LANG SHINING, who was all the range for the William Hill Lincoln before failing to make the cut, goes for a suitably rewarding alternative in the shape of the Spring Cup (2.50pm).
Then Stoute has the likely winner of the Greenham Stakes in CONFRONT (4pm), who has a great pedigree and should make up into a classic contender.
At Thirsk, WI DUD appeals as nap material. Kavin Ryan's sprinter is not far off top class on his day and looked magnificent when third in a good field on his reappearance.
The Scottish National at Ayr has been rather spoiled because a lot of the runners are outside the handicap proper.
Ferdy Murphy's LEADING MAN will be suited by the drying ground and is just preferred to stable-mate Noir Et Vert, though at 16-1 he must be rated an each-way wager.
