AN Olympics type sporting camp for young people aged from nine to 17 is being set up in Kendal with the Beijing Games about to dominate the sporting scene.
Kendal Judo Club chief instructor Mike Liptrot is the man behind the idea – with the aim of encouraging children to get into sport by trying some of the Olympic disciplines.
Twelve sports will be offered on the week's camp, which will used Kendal Judo Club’s newly-built club premises off Parkside Road as a base.
The judo club's top-class facilities have been recognised by their selection as one of the regional training bases for the 2012 Olympics in London.
At the Olympic Sports Camp next later this month, fully trained coaches will supervise the sports, which will include boxing, swimming, wrestling, weightlifting, fencing, athletics, judo, with other sports to be confirmed, over the next five days.
The cost is £150 for the week, which runs from 9am-5pm and takes place from July 28 until August 1.
