With the rain finally relenting over the weekend Netherfield were able to make the most of the dry weather, sweeping aside second bottom Darwin in a game in which the Kendal side rarely looked anything but in control of.
Netherfield won the toss and put Darwin into bat. The bowlers set about their job with purpose and had taken two wickets in no time.
Any hope Darwin had of making a stand fell to their professional A. Ashraf, however they must have known their afternoon was to finish prematurely when Huck, Kendal’s 16-year-old wicket keeper caught their talisman for 12 runs. Darwin’s run rate crept towards a final score of 139, but never threatened to amass to anything unanswerable with the likes of Ferguson, Clement and young Huck around.
The ever-impressive Australian, Ferguson took four wickets, which Clement matched. Huck caught and stumped another in addition to catching Ashraf, while even occasional bowler Chris Parry got in on the act taking two wickets.
Netherfield had to endure an early scare at the wicket, namely skipper Parry being bowled for three.
However a stand between Ferguson who finished 89 not out and Little (17) soon re-established Netherfield’s superiority. Two quick wickets then fell again, but just as before Ferguson was on hand to steady the ship and his partnership with Huck saw his side to within sight of the finish line.
Netherfield finished on 145 with overs to spare and claimed a 12-point victory. Mid way through the season they now occupy 7th spot in their division and play 6th placed Chorley next week.
Darwin collected two bonus points and remain routed to the bottom of the table with only Fleetwood below them.
