KENDAL Town and Carlisle United fans turned out in force for their teams’ first game of the season, despite heavy downpours at Town’s Lakeland Radio Stadium on Friday, reports Arran Jolly.
In a rare Cumbrian football derby, a 1,051 crowd watched an entertaining game that finished 4-0 to League One side Carlisle.
Despite the four division’s difference between the two sides, a tight first half saw Unibond outfit Kendal hold Carlisle to a goalless half time score, having played some attractive football.
However, Carlisle boss John Ward sent out a completely fresh team in the second half and it proved too much for the South Lakeland side.
Scott Dobie had a productive 45 minutes of football, scoring twice within five minutes (57, 61) and Danny Carlton (81) added a third for the visitors before the goal-of-the-day was scored by Luke Joice (90), who delicately chipped the ball into the roof of the net from all of 30 yards out, with the keeper stranded.
Despite the score-line Kendal did themselves proud and made a very good account of themselves against a decent League One side.
