PROMOTION looks to be only an afternoon away for Kendal AC after the club’s men and women’s team stayed top of the table in Division 2 following the penltimate meeting of the Mid Lancs Track and Field League series at Preston.
Kendal's men have a massive 300 points cushion over nearest rivals Ribble Valley and are looking good to seal the step up to the top rank come the fifth and final meeting at Litherland on August 9.
Kendal AC skipper Danny Parkinson maintained his grip on the senior men's 300m races, leading from start to finish to win in 9min 10sec, with team-mates Luke Ingham seventh and Pete Acland 13th.
Keiran Alderson was fourth in the 1500m in 4.25 while Phil Lee was tenth.
Kendal men were second in the 4x400m relay.
Graham Parson led the way in the Under-17 Men's events with a second and third in the 100m (12.2) and 200m (24.5) respectively and was tenth in the long jump.
Versatile Patrick Vicary claimed a fourth in the 1500m (4.40) and a fifth in the 800m (2.10), and added a shot-putt second (7.75), while Adam Clark was sixth in the 400m (72.1) and 12th in the long jump.
Best efforts in the Under-15 boys events came with a third for Matthew Smith in the 100m (14.0), with Luke Ingham (14.5) fourth in his race over the distance. Callum Blakey was third in the high jump (1.45) and fourth in the javelin.
In-form Ben Abbott had a first and second in the Under-13 boys' 200m (28.6) and 100m (13.6) respectively, plus a fifth in the long jump.
In the Under-15 girls' 300m, Eilidh Sproul ran well to be second, with Rebecca Garnett seventh in the long jump.
Jessica Hodsman had an excellent day, winning the Under-13 Girls' high jump (1m38) and securing third and fourth places in the 800m (2.41) and long jump (4.04) respectively.
