IT WAS a Kendal Athletic Club 1-2 at the sharp end of the Ulverston Summer 10k.
Clubmates they may be but that did not lessen the competitive instinct emerging as Alasdair Russell (33min 20sec) shaded Danny Parkinson (33-2) for the winner’s accolade by just two seconds at the finish line.
The fleet-footed Kendal pair had drawn comfortably clear of third-placed Russell Parrington (33-40), of Lancaster and Morecambe AC.
David Fulford (34-37) flew the flag for Hoad Hill Harriers in fifth place, while the talented Louise Gardner, another Lancaster and Morecambe AC runner, was the first woman and an impressive ninth overall in 35-12.
Other placings included: 11th S. Thwaites, Kendal AC (35-48); 12 J. Chadwick, Hoad Hill (35-52); 16th S. Young, Hoad Hill (36-50); 17th D. Athersmith, Hoad Hill (36-55); 20th H. Davis, Howgill (37-25).
