Football – Kendal hang on to claim 2-1 away victory.

KENDAL Town finished with ten men on the field for a second Saturday running after substitute Michael Cole was show a straight red for a challenge deep into injury time. However, Kendal who had scored two first-half goals, rode out a late push from North Ferriby United to claim all three points.

Kendal got up and running after only ten minutes. An Alex Taylor though ball set Carl Osman up for a cross, and the winger saw his fizzed ball into the box deflect off a Ferriby defender and skid into the net to make it 1-0 to Town.

The wide man got on the scoresheet proper 11 minutes later to double Kendal’s lead with Alex Taylor once again acting as the provider. The striker crossed from the left flank to find Osman at the back post, and he cleverly dummied and lost his marker before bending a shot into the keeper’s right corner.

Ferriby looked lifeless until the closing stages of the first half, when a soft penalty gifted them a way back into the game. With a corner not properly cleared, Town winger Osman jumped with a United striker to head clear a bouncing ball. However, the Kendal man was judged to have leant on the home player, and the referee pointed to the spot, leaving Gary Bradshaw to get a goal back on 36 minutes.

Kendal went 4-5-1 in the second half with Cole on for Ashcroft. While Kendal had several break away chances, the second half was predominantly Ferriby’s with the home side mounting attack after attack.

However, the United final ball often went straight through to David Newnes and it wasn’t until the last 15 minutes that the Kendal stopper was called into action. Newnes produced two fantastic saves late on to keep his side’s advantage.

United continued to press, putting cross after cross into the box, however, despite Cole’s late sending-off it was Kendal who maintained the upper hand and claimed all three points.
