North Lancs Football - Sub to rescue for Kirkby

MATTHEW Longdon came off the bench to salvage a point for Kirkby Lonsdale in the dying minutes of a sizzling 3-3 derby with Ingleton in the North Lancs Football League.

Longdon picked up the ball 20 yards from goal, side-stepped two defenders and unleashed an unstoppable curling effort into the top corner.

Kirkby had opened up a two-goal lead inside the first half-hour with goals from Nathan Jackson and a delightful lob from Brian Pennington.

Jackson had another goal ruled out for offside, but on the stroke of half time some lax goalkeeping allowed Jonathan Boadle to bundle Ingleton back into the game.

With renewed belief Ingleton bombarded the Kirkby goal and despite some outstanding saves from Chris Rowsall, they opened up a 3-2 lead through Dave Whitfield and Chris Bibby.

But the final quarter of an hour saw Kirkby get back on top and after numerous corners and a strong penalty appeal Longdon fired home the equaliser.

Kirkby Lonsdale succumbed to their second successive away defeat of the season, losing 4-1 at the hands of champions Storeys.

The home side raced into a two-goal lead inside the opening 15 minutes thanks to goals from Adam Lund and Chris Park.

They continued to dominate but found Kirkby keeper Chris Rowsall in fine form.

Shortly before half time and against the run of play, Nathan Jackson latched on to a flick to score his fourth of the season and give Kirkby hope of a comeback.

But chances were missed early in the second half and as the game wore on Storey's once again took control.

In the final ten minutes they sealed the game with two deflected goals from Luke Atkinson and Gareth Turner to make the final score 4-1.
