Football - Town show grit at Ferriby

North Ferriby Utd........1 Kendal Town.........…2 KENDAL Town gained a hard-fought victory in North Ferriby under the shadow of the Humber Bridge on the North-East coast last Saturday.

Despite the late sending-off of substitute Michael Cole, Town rode out a last-ditch push from the home side to win 2-1.

The game could not have begun better for Kendal. who swept into a 2-0 lead with only 22 minutes gone.

Ferriby defender Danny Moore gave Town the start they were seeking when he turned Carl Osman's low cross into his own net on ten minutes.

Not content with merely having a hand in Town's opengoal, Osman got himself on the scoresheet 12 minutes later.

Picked out by an Alex Taylor cross, the wide man sold his defender with a quick dummy before bending a shot into the keeper's right hand corner.

It turned out to be an eventful day for Osman, who on 36 minutes gifted the home side a route back into the game after fouling one of their players in the box.

The referee pointed to the spot and Gary Bradshaw converted for the home side.

The second half saw midfielder Michael Cole replace Lee Ashcroft as Kendal looked to protect their lead as the home side inevitably pushed forward in search on the equaliser.

Despite controlling the lion's share of possession, North Ferriby left it late before threatening to draw level. Keeper David Newnes was called into action twice in the last ten minutes and the Kendal keeper responded with two brilliant saves.

While a Michael Cole tackle deep into injury time brought a straight red from the referee, Kendal held on and deservedly claimed all three points.
