KENDAL’S James Ellison insists he only has himself to blame after his hopes for a Bennetts British Superbike top six finish ended in tatters at Brands Hatch.
The 28-year-old lost vital ground on his rivals when he missed round nine at Cadwell Park due to a wrist injury he sustained riding non-competitively in Spain.
While Ellison was sitting on the sidelines, rivals Michael Rutter and Leon Camier grabbed crucial points to leave him out in the cold in his battle for sixth place.
And Ellison believes the blame must be laid firmly at his door following his Spain debacle.
“It’s been an up and down season this year but it definitely hinged on the mistake I made in injuring myself in Spain,” said Ellison.
“That really did for my season and it was stupid of me – I really let myself down there.
“I was in Spain Enduro riding for a couple of days and I managed to get a repetitive strain injury from riding for too long.
“I shouldn’t have been pushing myself as hard as I was out there and it really cost me.
