KENDAL men's hockey team needed to regroup after the disappointing 4-3 loss away to Urmston last weekend. A bonus for this week was the presence of a recognised 'keeper.
Kendal's Ewan Galloway scored within a couple of minutes of the pushback after a strike at goal deflected off a defender's stick, looped into the air and dropped just in front of the 'keeper.
With everyone expecting a clinical clearance kick, the ball spun and passed between the keeper's legs.
Galloway scored a second five minutes later to make it 2-0.
Northern began pressing as they usually do and got two goals back, both from short corners.
Another short just before half time resulted in a great drag flick which gave Josh Chacko little chance and left Northern with a 3-2 lead at the interval.
In spite of an inspirational half-time team talk, Kendal went a further goal down as Northern scored in open play.
Then it was knock for knock, each team adding another goal before a late Kendal push brought a goal five minutes from final whistle.
It came rom a short corner. Galoway's strike was deflected in by the post by Phil Conlin After this, Kendal pushed hard but couldn't get the equaliser, which some feel might have been a fair result.
Alan Young got man of the match in another fine display, whilst Josh Chacko's commanding presence made a big difference to the Kendal performance.
