West Lancs Football - Signs that Cors can come good

Milnthorpe Corinthians 2.

Croston Sports.......2.

CORS, unbeaten in their last three league games and with most players now available for selection, could still mount a charge up the table.

They should have taken the lead after ten minutes when Shaun Palmer found Ollie Wilson in the area, but his header went just the wrong side of the post. Wilson was in the action again when a defence-splitting pass from Adam Pashley sent him through, but this time he was foiled by the keeper. With most of the play in the Croston half, it seemed inevitable Cors would score. Top scorer Chris Vincent raced on to a Paul Grattan pass, beat the keeper but his shot rebounded off a post to Kris Clough, who dragged his shot across the face of goal. Vincent had another opening soon after, only to shoot high and wide.

Cors' keeper Russ Sharpe was tested just once on the half-hour when slack marking from a corner saw a volley struck goalwards, and he reacted smartly to turn the ball round the post. But Cors were made to pay for not turning their dominance into goals when they fell behind just before half-time. Neil Hayton's challenge on the corner of his own box appeared to have won the ball but the referee awarded Croston a free-kick. The shot across goal somehow evaded Sharpe and nestled in the far corner.

Manager Ian Wilson changed both personnel and the formation for the second half and it paid dividends when Cors eventually got on level terms.

A chipped pass sent Vincent clear and his cross found the head of Ollie Wilson who buried the header and it looked as if Cors would go on to clinch the points until a 30-yard shot on a rare foray restored Croston's lead.

Cors showed their fighting spirit to level the scores with just five minutes remaining. Bobby Walsh, on as substitute for the tiring Grattan returning after leg surgery, picked out Rob Wilson, whose exquisite first touch enabled him to fire past the keeper.

The result leaves Cors in mid-table with eight points from seven games and seven points behind the league leaders.
