The much-anticipated Kendal Sports Village promises to provide county-standard pitches for Kendal Cricket Club, a new clubhouse and a host of neighbouring football pitches for the community, if it is given the go ahead by planners.
A separate development opposite the railway station off Shap Road – which is part of the same proposal – plans to create a large retail park with car parking once the leisure site has been built.
The plan, which developers say is “subject to further detailed discussion and agreement,” would create a new clubhouse with home and away changing rooms, a bar, function rooms, dance floor, and members’ room.
The building would sit adjacent to a new flood-protected first team pitch with county standard wickets and a second team practise pitch.
Next to this would be five full-size football pitches, one all-weather football pitch with fencing and floodlights and several other playing surfaces.
A 970sq metre changing pavilion built to Sport England specifications would also be created alongside extensive car and coach parking facilities.
Meridian Developments development director, John Taylor, said the proposal would provide “major benefits not only to Kendal Cricket Club, but also the wider sporting community and therefore Kendal and South Lakes as a whole.
