LOCAL orienteers turned out in force on Torver High Common for South Ribble OC's colour-coded event in the Cumbrian Galoppen series last Sunday.
Courses were set on open hilly moorland below the Coniston fell tops with a multitude of small crags and knolls forming many of the control points.
Lakeland OC's Stewart Fishwick and Michael McIver were second and third on the long technical Brown course with Warrior's Andy Hyslop seventh and Richard Wilson (LOC) tenth, in a field of almost 40.
LOC's Jack Wright, Derek Ratcliffe and Chris Rhodes were third, fifth and seventh in the 80-strong Blue course event. On Green, the shortest technical course, attracted over a 100 competitors. Brian Singleton (LOC) was fourth and Carl Edmonds (BARRO) ninth.
On the less technical Light Green course, Laura Jones (BARRO) was fifth with LOC's Malachy Buck and Nathan Metcalfe in sixth and seventh places.
Most juniors competed on the Orange and Yellow courses, BARRO dominating on Orange, with Sam Story second, Theo Messenger fourth and Sarah Jones fifth.
On Yellow, William Rigg (LOC) was second, Lorna Nunwick (LOC) third, Molly Moss (LOC) fifth, David Jackson (BARRO) sixth, Freya Sadler (LOC) seventh, Sean Penellum (BARRO) eighth, Hannah Cleary-Hughes (LOC) ninth and Rowan Barton (LOC) tenth.
