N Lancs Football - Bruce makes Swarthmoor pay penalty

INGLETON remain beaten only once in the Premier Division, but they had to grind out a 2-0 victory over a battling Swarthmoor side that is still seeking its first three-pointer.

Paul Bruce proved to be Ingleton's saviour when he converted two penalties, which keeps the Dales men third in the table, five points off leaders Storeys.

Ingleton Reserves did not fare so well, going down 5-2 at Morecambe Royals Reserves in Division 1, with Ben O'Hagan and Alex Hartley scoring for the visitors.

Kirkby Lonsdale Reserves carried too many guns for struggling Caton United Reserves in Division 2. A Scott Tremble hat-trick, along with two goals apiece from Tom Hadwin and Grant Troughton carried them to a 7-1 victory.

Division 3 Bentham Reserves kept on the heels of the leading bunch with a 2-1 win at the team immediately above them Carnforth Rangers Res with a 2-1 win thanks to two strikes from Darren Thompson.

In Division 4, Ingleton A got on the scoresheet through John Connaghton, who scored twice, but AFC Moorlands were too strong and ran out 5-2 winners.

ALLITHWAITE FC from Division 3 of the North Lancashire League met Division 1 neighbours Grange in the Adam and Gaskell Senior Challenge Cup on Saturday and achieved a shock 2-1 victory.

Veteran Dave Addison and Alan Dawson scored for the underdogs in this second-round tie, while Grange could only muster a single goal in reply from Ryan McKenny. Allithwaite have been drawn at home again in the third round, this time to Division 1 side College AFC.

Another local derby result went to form with Division 1 Millhead beating Burton of Division 3 2-1 in a game that could have gone either way. Matthew White scored for Burton, with Derek Akister and Dominic Wooff replied for Millhead. A sterner test awaits the winners, who have drawn Premier side Kirkby Lonsdale in the third round. Kirkby’s poor away record continued with a 3-2 league league defeat by Morecambe Hoops.

Kirkby were a goal down under two minutes and only good saves from Kirkby keeper Chris Rowsell kept the scoreline down to 1-0 at half time.

Nathan Jackson scored twice in the second half for Kirkby but Hoops kept replying and Des Martinez snatched a winner to add to earlier goals from Jamie Durnham and Rob Gouldsborough. Premier Division Carnforth Rangers avoided an upset when winning 3-2 at Division 2 Morecambe CC.

Despite taking the lead, Carnforth had to go into extra time to seal the verdict with two goals from Matthew Garwood and another from Byron Nixon sealing the win after Paul Woodhouse and Sam McKee put the cricket club on the scoresheet.

In the competition's first round, Bentham showed their class when the Division 1 side hammered Division 2 Overton 10-0, with their leading scorer James Earnshaw hitting a five-timer.

Jamie Parker also got a hat-trick and Keiron Spencer and Andy Iddeson were also on target. Other Adam & Gaskell Cup winners were Storeys with a decisive 6-2 verdict over Squires along with Morecambe Gold and Marsh United.
