Martial Arts - Ju-Jitsu black-belts take a bow

TWO members of Lakeland Ju-Jitsu Academy, Keelan Knight and Shane Mason, earned their junior black belts at Samurai World, Liverpool.

Both boys are from Kendal and have been training for their junior black belt for five years under the instruction of Sensei Richard Smith, 5th Dan Ju-Jitsu and founder of the Lakeland Ju-Jitsu Academy.

For their black belt grading Keelan and Shane were required to show a panel from The World Ju-Jitsu Federation (including Mr Clark, 9th Dan Ju-Jitsu and founder of The World Ju-Jitsu Federation) various throws, katas and complex ju-jitsu martial arts techniques.

As well as practical training for the belts, they have both attended intense workshops and international courses up and down the country throughout their training ahead of the grading.

Both of them are now working towards their first gold tab of weapons which will include wooden sword (bokken), nunchaku (made famous by Bruce Lee) and bo (6ft staff). On the same day, three more students from Lakeland Ju-Jitsu Academy successfully took their next gold tabs. They were: Callum Goulder (gold tab 2), Luke Robinson (gold tabs 4 & 5) and Adam Robinson (gold tabs 6 & 7).
