SILVERDALE cycling guru Geoff Newcombe has announced the launch of the latest sponsored cycle racing team in the North West - Team Herbalife.
The team's official launch will take place in February but five of the team have already been named with more to follow.
These are some of the most talented young riders from clubs around the area and are: Jonathan Knox, Callum Nicholson and Josh Varty, who all started their cycling career with the Kent Valley RC; Dillon Byrne, who started with Cleveleys RC; and Ashley Finn from the Lune CRC.
All have featured prominently in local results over the last few years and, although they are all good all-rounders, Each brings particular talents to team. Knox and Nicholson are noted time- triallists. All rode regularly in the Salt Ayre closed circuit road racing league and four of the five were in the top ten overall. Finn, gained 196 points in road races in the last season.
The new team's main sponsor, Herbalife, is a US-based nutritional products manufacturer and distributor which started in 1980 and is now worth billions of dollars and trades in 70 countries worldwide. Geoff Newcombe and Phil Leigh are running and both have long associations with race promotions and running successful teams, notably the 'Compensation Group' and 'Life Repair' teams four or five years ago.
