OFFICIALS at Kendal RUFC remained hopeful that the promised thaw would arrive in time to save the National League 3 North match away at Bradford and Bingley on Saturday (2.15pm kick-off)).

After last week’s home game at Hull Ionians fell foul of the freeze-up - the club’s fourth home postponement of the season - players and supporters alike are keen to get back to action.

News from Bradford and Bingley during the week was that the club was “optimistic” that the weather would improve enough to allow the match to go ahead, although an overnight frost was forecast for tonight (Friday).

The official league table on the RFU website shows Kendal in ninth place, two spots above Bradford and Bingley (nickname The Bees), and there are new leaders at the top of the table.

Nuneaton displaced Caldy by a point after a 23-7 win at Loughborough Students, one of only two North 3 games played.

Bottom side Halifax were outpointed by their Yorkshire neighbours Huddersfield 43-35.

Kendal hooker Duncan Green remains sidelined with a shoulder injury, but the starting line-up remains unchanged from that selected last week.

New signing Rob Aloe, who has been acclimatising to sub-zero temperatures ever since arriving from New Zealand, is still to make his first-team debut and is named on the bench, with Luke Ladell added to the replacements.

Kendal’s cup match against National League 1 outfit Sedgley Park is coming up on Saturday, January 17. A supporters bus will be going to the fourth-round tie in the EDF Energy National Trophy, and anyone interested should contact Ron Hayes (01539 721944).
