Fell Running - Second Winter League success for Addison

JUNIOR international Tom Addison won his second race in the Kendal Winter League series to keep a grip on the title he won last year as he stormed to victory at Birkrigg Common near Ulverston.

Addison sprinted off from the start and had already established a healthy lead at the top of the first climb and despite going into oxygen debt over the fast section of the course was still strong enough to win comfortably from Hoad Hill’s Chris Howie, who was also first veteran. Wharfedale’s Kate Rogan was frist lady beating Helm Hill’s Kath Aubrey by just six seconds.

Rossendale’s Ashley Kay ran strongly to win the U17 race with Keighley and Craven’s Tom Sessford and Helm Hill’s Jos Addison in hot pursuit while Melanie Hyder made it four win from four in the U17 girls’ event.

Winning the Northern cross country title the previous day had litle impact on the form of Helm Hill’s James Knox who powered ahead of the U14 field on the first climb although Rossendale’s Danny Walsh pushed him hard over the later stages of the race but was still 15 seconds adrift at the finish. Lancaster and Morecambe’s Sarah Hodgson galloped to victory in the U14 girls race while Helm Hill’s Megan Stuart and Lauren Munro-Bennett were involved in an intriguing duel for second spot.

Keighley & Craven’s Phil Done won the U12 boys’ race with Rossendale’s Callum Davidson closing him down on the run in ahead of Helm Hill’s David Goad. In the girls’ U12 race Lorna Nunwick’s early work paid off as she held off her faster finishing Helm Hill team mate Mary O’Reilly in the race to the line.
