Rugby - 'Be hungry' call for Lions duel

LATEST NEWS: Match called off - frost.

KENDAL make changes for Saturday’s home match as they attempt to maintain theor progress up the National League 3 North table at the expense of Leicester Lions (2pm kick-off), writes Richard Daniels.

Right winger Zane Butler is rested from the starting line-up and takes a turn on the replacements’ bench after taking a few knocks in recent matches, including being cynically floored in the Sedgley Park cup game and chipping over the top.

Kendal coach Jon Nicholson explained: “Zane is resting as I want him to be 100 per cent fit for upcoming games. He has a few knocks that need a bit of time – mostly from the illegal challenge suffered in the Sedgley game.”

Matt Gracie, ousted at centre by New Zealander Rob Aloe’s arrival, returns to the side in Butler’s spot.

Meanwhile, flanker Mark Wilson is unavailable because of commitments with the Newcastle Falcons Academy.

Nicholson added: “Joel Howse has impressed during training and second-team games over past few months and deserves his chance.

“Likewise with Paul Gillard (second team wing) who breaks into the first-team squad for the first time and starts on the bench.

He added: The team showed great strength of character in turning around an unusually inadequate first-half performance last week, but they are all fully aware that we will not overturn that sort of deficit against Leicester Lions. “We must start strong on Saturday and get better.”

Sixth-placed Leicester Lions are two places and three points ahead of Kendal.
