Rugby - Nuns blow to spur on Kendal

KENDAL’S home fixture against Leicester Lions became another victim of one of the worst seasons for postponements in recent years and a long trip to Nuneaton in Warwickshire faces the squad tomorrow (Saturday).

The Black and Ambers have not had a sight of their Midlands opponents so far as the earlier fixture at Mint Bridge was called off back on October 25 - one of six matches to suffer the fate so far.

Nuneaton are flying high in National League 3 North,. lying second to Caldy, three points adrift but with a match in hand, having lost only two of their 15 league matches.

And with an eight-point gap back to third-placed Fylde, quite a few clubs will be hoping Kendal can reel back the Midlanders at Liberty Way.

Kendal will have learned that Nuneaton have suffered a blow with an injury to their influential young fly-half Rickie Aley.

The 18-year-old had put in regular eye-catching displays, enough to have been called up for an England Counties XV to play an Ireland Clubs XV at the end of the month.

However, Aley is awaiting a scan after being stretchered off the pitch while playing for Leicester Tigers Academy aganst Wales U18s.

He fell awkwardly when an opponent crashed in to him while he was exeucting a kick and anterior cruciate ligament damage is suspected, which could see him sidelined for six months.

Kendal put out a strong side with winger Zane Butler and flanker Mark Wilson back in the starting line-up.

Hooker Duncan Green is still sidelined with his shoulder complaint.
