N Lancs Football - Moor find shooting boots

KIRKBY Lonsdale could not dent Marsh United’s elevation to the Premier Division leadership as they went down 4-0.

Kirkby never gave up but could not keep Lee Sparks and his darting run in check.

He set up Dale Williams for the opener. Veteran Dave Shorrocks scored a second before Sparks stole the show with the last two goals.

Carnforth Rangers easily overcame Swarth-moor 6-0. Goals from Matthew Garwood, Adam Illey, Alex Benson and Paul Taylor gave Rangers a comfortable 4-0 interval lead. Easing off in the second half, Rangers added only two more from Taylor and Tony Holmes with a 35-yard wonder goal.

In Division 1, lowly Ingleton Reserves turned over high-flying Bentham in the Holdens Solicitors/Gibson Cup with a 2-1 second-round derby victory.

Alex Hartley put a determined Ingleton ahead and they withstood everything Bentham threw at them until conceding a penalty.

James Earnshaw levelled the scores from the spot, but Bentham still could not find their free-flowing style and young Ben O’Hagan headed Ingleton’s second in the last two minutes to book a semi-final at Bowerham.

In the league, Grange fought for all their worth against a useful College AFC. But with the game goalless and deep into injury time, they were caught out when slack marking allowed College’s Paul Stimson to net a winner from close range.

The biggest shock of the day probably came in Division 2 when second-placed Arnside lost to bottom club Caton United Reserves.

Impressive James Postlethwaite put Caton ahead and they went 2-0 up when Russell Stevenson scored. Arnside battled away and pulled one back through Chris Kelly, but although Caton had a man sent off with five minutes left they held on to three valuable points.

Allithwaite recorded a 5-4 win on penalties over Squires after extra time in the Fairclough/Woodruff/Parkinson/Collegian Cup.

At the end of extra time, two goals from David Addison and one from Andrew Paisley made it 3-3 against Squires, for whom Jay Harrison, Richard Howard and Jake Harrison were on target.

Allithwaite kept their nerve in the shoot-out to seal a semi-final ticket.

In the league, Arnside Reserves won only their second game of the season, beating Heysham 2-1 thanks to goals from James Barr and Robert Shepherd.

Bentham Reserves moved into second place after a 4-2 victory over Grange Reserves, with strikes from Dan Ellershaw, Tom Burns and Darren Thompson (2), putting them into a 4-0 lead before late Grange goals from Jamie Saunders and Steve Cairns.

In Division 4, Ingleton A shared the spoils with Overton Reserves in a 3-3 draw, goals coming for the Dales side from Ian Robinson, John Connaghton and Robert Jones.

Kirkby Lonsdale Reserves got ample revenge over Cartmel Reserves who beat them last week, by beating them this time by 2-0 with both goals scored by David Banks.
