Hayton's View - 'Deadly' Dan's the man

AS CASEY Mee used to say - "Winning beer tastes better" - so it was good to come away with a hard-earned win at Halifax.

Not without cost, however, as Deadly Dan (Stephens) picked up a worrying shoulder injury. He injured it very early on and then aggravated it when bravely diving on a loose ball to secure possession for Lewis Boyd's try, which set us on the way to a win.

He then played "one-winged" for the rest of the game, typifying the dogged spirit in this team.

Chris Park's knee injury is causing concern and now needs some rehabilitation work before he can be picked again.

On the positive side Duncan Green came off the bench and showed that he was back to fitness which adds to our forward strength.

Our fixture congestion could be exacerbated by the league’s decision to allow teams who have a player selected to play for the English Counties Team to postpone their fixtures on that date.

Huddersfield now want to postpone their game due to be played on March 14 to the next available Saturday, which for us is May 23 - the middle of the cricket season! The club is now trying to juggle other fixtures, including playing midweek to free up an earlier Saturday. Watch this space.

This Saturday Harrogate visit Mint Bridge which promises to be a lot more exciting than the Ireland v England encounter from last Saturday - watching knitting would be more exciting than that.

The Claro Road team always play a fast open type of rugby. They beat us by one point over there when we were just finding our feet in the league and centre Nick Wainwright opened us up time and again to cause most of the damage. They have a strong scrummage to play from and only lost on the last kick of the match to high-flying Macclesfield last week.

We will play a fast loose game to move their big pack around the field and grind them down. This will give Lewis and Zane some space to to work in and treat our taste buds after the game."
