Witton Albion 1.
Kendal Town 3.
KENDAL Town returned to winning ways at Witton Albion at Northwich in Cheshire and did it with some style.
With Town legend David Foster back in the starting line-up and Warren Beattie in his second spell at the club, it was a revitalised Town that took to the Wincham Stadium pitch.
In a reshuffle, Danny Wisdom took the wide left berth while George Melling did duty at right back.
Town were on their mettle from the off, competing well for every ball only to fall behind.
After John Lawless forced a good save from Town keeper David Newnes, the hosts went ahead when Neil Black tucked away a headed flick-on on 23 minutes.
Town came straight back with Michael Cole, Alex Taylor and the Foster all going close.
A strong penalty shout for Town was turned down as Witton’s Paul Booth appeared to handle in the area, and the first half ended with Town still trailing.
Town offered more promise without reward at the start of the second period. Cole saw his free kick well saved and Beattie fired a firm shot just over the crossbar.
Witton went close to extending their narrow lead, however. when Newnes’ clearance fell to Lawless, whose first-time shot back over the keepertook a wicked bounce over the bar to the visitors’ relief.
But on 61 minutes Town at last found the net as Beattie blasted home a header from a Mulvaney cross to level the scores.
Three minutes later Taylor put Town 2-1 up as the striker finished a neat passing move involving Mulvaney and Melling.
Keeping the pressure on, Wisdom went on a powerful run that was only blocked well into the Witton area.
But the same player was not to be denied on 75 minutes as he thrashed the ball home from wide out on the left wing to make it 3-1 to Town.
Cole and Warburton had further chances to extend Town's lead, but they settled for a fine 3-1 away victory that saw them move up to to ninth in the table.
HOW THEY RATED: Newnes 7, Melling 8, David Standley 7, Hallam (capt) 7, Wordsworth 7, Warburton 8, Cole 7, Foster 7 (Mulvaney 56, 8), Taylor 9, Beattie 8, Wisdom.
Star Man Alex Taylor.
