Windermere 9.
St Benedicts 21.
ST Benedict’s looked like they wanted to win this Cumbria Cup match much more than Windermere.
After 25 minutes Windermere found themelseves playing catch-up, ten points adrift following two unconverted tries.
The first came from a good break by Benedict’s No. 8 Wood, who passed inside for Nelson to score, and the second off a tap-penalty which saw the ball fed out wide for full back Ralph to touch down.
Windermere suffered a blow when influential second-row forward Griesley went off injured.
Nevertheless, James Crawford put them on the scoresheet with two excellent penalties, but Huddleston converted a penalty for the visitors to leave Windermere trailing 13-6 leaving at the break.
A disjointed, error-strewn second half was not much of a spectacle.
Windermere looked the more likely to score until an interception from Benedict’s full-back Ralph allowed him to run from deep in his own half for an unconverted try in the right corner.
Windermere continued to press, but a Crawford penalty was cancelled out by Huddleston for Benedict’s to give them a comfortable win.
Windermere’s focus returns to the league next week with a visit to North Manchester.
