Ambleside 4.
Shap 0.
DEFENDING champions Ambleside United have signed Gary Baker from Kendal Town.
Town boss Lee Ashcroft has allowed midfielder Baker to join the Lakes side to get him match-fit for the run-in and he played in the 4-0 defeat of Shap, who themselves had an accomplished recent newcomer in the shape of leading scorer Martyn Coleman, who had been playing for Wetheriggs before a spell at Workington.
A spate of injuries is plaguing the titleholders with Jamie Parkinson (broken rib), David Cooper (dead leg), Craig Rogan (groin) and Craig Edmondson (ankle) all doutful for Saturday’s home match with Appleby.
Meanwhile, Shap played well and Coleman went close to giving them the lead but he hit the bar.
A Craig Edmondson bullet header from Dave Ramsey’s cross put Amblesuide ahead and just before half time Cooper was put through, turned the covering defender and scored to make it 2-0 at half time.
Newcomer Rogan, who has played at a higher level, showed what he could do after half time.
The 19-year-old scored two well-struck goals from outsiide the box, with midfielder Matt Parkinson having a hand in both build-ups.
Centre-back Chris Barton controlled wel lat the back, but the injury list is a worry for Ambleside, who have lost in the league only once this season and are third behind Wetheriggs and Carvetii with with games in hand.
