THERE were plenty of positives for Kendal Town to take away from today’s encounter with Boston, as a brace from Alex Taylor and a Michael Cole penalty secured a 3-0 victory.
Both sides had to contend with miserable playing conditions with pouring rain not helping an already very sticky pitch.
After a balanced opening 20 minutes it was home side Kendal who began to look the more assured as they upped the tempo and pinned Boston back into their own half.
Returning striker David Foster saw his close range effort blocked on 24 minutes, but the move started a spell of Kendal possession that ended with the superb Alex Taylor firing in off the post two minutes later.
The resulting corner from Foster’s effort was unconvincingly hacked clear by the visitors and Kendal quickly regained the ball. In a crowd of players on the edge of the box Cole found Alex Taylor with a short pass and the striker manoeuvred some room to fire home from a central position.
Boston came very close to drawing level minutes after Town had taken the lead. Gary King was unlucky to see his free-kick from 25-yards out smack against the post with Newnes routed to his line.
Town responded on the counter attack and a measured Taylor ball released Foster down the left. The Town man made it the edge of the area before crossing into the box, his delivery never made it to a Kendal player though as the ball struck defender Paul Ellender’s arm and the referee pointed to the spot.
Michael Cole put the ball down and converted forcefully, firing his effort to the left and sending the keeper the wrong way on 34 minutes.
The second half saw Kendal pick up their game where they had left off as they dominated possession and carved out several great chances. Boston had keeper Aaron Butcher to thank for keeping the score down as the inspired stopper made a string of fine saves to thwart Foster, Taylor and Cole.
But Kendal were to good for their opposition, and rounded off an encouraging performance with a goal as Alex Taylor spun his man to set up a one on one on 87 minutes and finish with a simple low drive past Butcher.
It was just as much as Taylor deserved with the striker once again putting in a virtuoso performance. But Kendal had big performances across the park today as each player battled admirably to ensure Town took all three points and make it two wins on the bounce.
