After Boston manager Steve Walsh described Kendal as average Town boss Lee Ashcroft admits he didn’t have to say much to the players ahead of last Saturdays game:
“ I heard what the Boston manager said about us before the game as did the players, and to be honest that was the best motivation he could have given us.
Everyone in the starting line up and the lads on the bench were really up for it and I think you could tell out on the pitch as they all battled for the result we deserved, and I’d be surprised if he still thinks we’re average!
The only slight downer on Saturday’s game was that David Newnes picked up an injury after a horrible tackle. We’ve also got Alex Taylor suffering from a virus, and Paul Byrne went off early against Leigh so we’re facing a race against time for them all to be fit for tomorrow’s game at Guiseley.
As I keep saying we’re ahead of where I thought we’d be at this stage of the season. I think that it is brilliant that we’ve already passed 47 points - the total points we got last season - it just shows how much of a step up we’ve taken this campaign.
We’ve got three on the bounce behind us now and if we can put together a run of seven or eight wins we’ll be in the play offs no questions asked.
I’ve seen what this group of players can do in training and they’re a very confident bunch of individuals, so if we can keep our momentum going the confidence in the team will be sky-high and that only makes the difficult job of fighting our way into the promotion spots easier.
Guiseley will be difficult no doubt about it - but hopefully we can make it four wins on the bounce and move one step close to where we want to be".
