SEDBERGH School's historic Wilson Run - a ten-mile cross-country race that dates back to 1881 - takes place at the school on Tuesday.
Race organiser Hugh Symonds said this year's run had a big entry of 130, with about 40 girls taking part.
He said: "There is strong possibility of an attack on the girls’ record.
"The boys' running team very successful this year so the top six will produce a very competitive race."
Pictures and report in Friday's Westmorland Gazette.
