Hesketh Bank.................1.
M Corinthians.................0.
HESKETH Bank might be struggling for their lives at the foot of the table but they put in a battling performance to overcome Milnthorpe Corinthians 1-0.
Despite a great display last week Corinthians looked shell shocked as they came up against an opposition who chased, harried and fought for every ball all over the pitch.
Hesketh Bank dominated the opening exchanges and Corinthians had keeper Nicky Dent to thank for keeping the scores level. The Milnthorpe custodian was called into action several times to thwart the home attack.
Corinthians did manage to establish themselves as the half wore on. A glorious piece of skill from Chris Vincent set up strike partner Ollie Wilson, but his slide-rule shot went just wide of the post.
The effort signalled a brief purple patch for Corinthians with their best chance falling to Adam Towler, who headed against the post from only yards out.
With the score still at 0-0 at half time, Corinthians emerged from the dressing-room looking more focussed and began to pin the home side back into their own half. However, Hesketh scored a stunning goal against the run of play to take the lead.
After a Hesketh attack broke down Corinthians conceded possession on the halfway line to the Hesketh centre-half.
The defender steadied himself and unleashed a thunderbolt from all of 35 yards that flew in, leaving Dent with no chance.
Milnthorpe reverted to three at the back as they pumped additional firepower up front.
It nearly paid off as an almighty goalmouth scramble almost saw Steve Chapman salvage a point for the visitors but the Hesketh keeper pounced upon his effort and the home side finished on the offensive to claim the points.
