Motor Sport - Busy time for Kirkby drivers

KIRKBY Lonsdale Motor Club was well represented last weekend on both the International Rally of Wales, The Bulldog and SMC Stages at Weeton Camp.

In the International section of the Bulldog, Kendal’s Martyn Taylor navigated Chris Firth to 13th place overall in a Subaru Impreza and after being the second Fiesta ST after three stages, Kris Hall had to make do with fourth when a puncture cost him one and a half minutes, finishing in 15th place overall.

The organisers also had a Clubman event running in conjunction with the International but only using five of the seven stages and Carnforth’s Ian Joel took second place on his first competitive outing of the season in the Silverstone Tyres supported Escort Cosworth.

At Weeton Camp, Kirkham, Lancaster’s Darren Atkinson/Phil Sandham won the battle of the Escort Mk II’s when he finished just ahead of Flookburgh’s Trevor Smith/Clare Rigg, at the SMC stages.

Penrith’s Helen Hall got Marcus Noble to swap seats again and they finished 25th in her Sunbeam, whilst Kendal’s Mark Greenbank/Barry Bosworth were the final finishers in 31st place from an entry of 62.

The event saw quiet few local crews contesting the event , possibly looking for information for when the KLMC/GPM Stage Championship goes there in June.

Whether they got any useful information or not remains to be seen but Keith and Jackie Richardson, Phil Jackson and Katy Mashiter in the Myerscough College Subaru all failed to finish and so will be hoping for better luck next time.
